Compounding

What is a compounding pharmacy?

The Chemist Shop is an accredited Specialty and Compounding pharmacy. But what does that mean? Compared to the standard pharmacy, our compounding pharmacy specializes in not just dispensing medication, but customizing medication for each individual patient. We work with your medical team to build a high quality formula based on your unique health needs

A compounding Pharmacist can suggest alternative methods of dosing options for a variety of specialties including veterinary compounding, pediatric compounding, hormone replacement therapy, sterile compounding and many other compounding options. Our compounding Pharmacists are highly trained to help you achieve your individual pharmaceutical needs.

Specialty and Compounding pharmacies are highly specialized disciplines requiring training, dedication, creativity, and a solid knowledge of treatment options.

Our commitment to excellence.

The Chemist Shop is accredited by Pharmacy Compounding Accreditation Board (PCAB) for compliance with PCAB pharmacy compounding accreditation standards. PCAB is a service of Accreditation Commission for Health Care and is a third-party accreditation organization that has developed the highest national standards that providers are measured against in order to illustrate their ability to effectively and efficiently deliver quality compounded medications to consumers.

PCAB performs on-site visits with industry-expert Surveyors who audit specific areas of performance. PCAB Accreditation also requires annual validation to ensure continued compliance with all applicable standards.

WHAT DOES IT MEAN FOR YOU?

PCAB Accreditation requires pharmacies to demonstrate compliance with specific process standards. By choosing a compounding pharmacy that has achieved PCAB Accreditation, you can take comfort in knowing that the pharmacy meets national quality standards. If you have any concerns about the product or service that you receive from The Chemist Shop, you may contact ACHC directly at 855-937-2242

Pharmacists are the only health care professionals that have studied chemical compatibility and can prepare alternate dosage forms. In fact, each state requires that pharmacy schools must, as part of their core curriculum, instruct students on the compounding of pharmaceutical ingredients. Compounding pharmacies are licensed and regulated in the 50 states and the District of Columbia by their respective state boards of pharmacy.

Who needs compound medicine?

A growing number of people have unique health needs that off-the-shelf prescription medicines cannot meet. For them, customized, compounded medications -- prescribed or ordered by licensed physicians or veterinarians and mixed safely by trained, licensed compounding pharmacists -- are the only way to better health. Compounding is in even greater demand for treating animals because of the relatively narrow selection of medicines that are manufactured by pharmaceutical companies.

WHO MAY NEED COMPOUNDED MEDICATION?

  • patients with allergies to preservatives, dyes, or binders

  • pediatric patients

  • patients who cannot ingest dosages in readily available flavors or formats

  • patients with unique health needs

  • patients who require multiple medications or unique dosages

  • patients who want a higher standard of pharmaceutical care

  • when needed medications are discontinued or unavailable

  • veterinary patients
